Samsung Exynos 7904 Vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 625

Samsung Exynos 7904 Vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 will be facing each other in this comparison. Technological advancement seems to know no boundaries with sets of newer technologies being introduced each time. However, there’s always difference between new products and old ones.

In the early part of 2016 when Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 625 a mid-range System on a chip into its Snapdragon 600 series, it outsmarted many mid-ranged chipsets and ranked as one of the most popular Smartphone Processor in 2017.

It also made its way into some of the top mid-range devices like Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X, Xiaomi Mi A1, Motorola Moto G5+, Levono P2, Asus Zenfone 3, Samsung Galaxy C7, and Xiaomi Mi Max 2.

Achieving flagship at its time, it was featured in the Redmi Note 4 and made the highest selling Smartphone in India in 2017.

If for comparison purpose, we bring Samsung’s Exynos 7904 which was introduced in the early part of 2019 together with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625, it won’t be ideal to compare due to some features we are going to see in this comparison writeup.

Process Technology (nm)

Though both processors seem to be introduced at different dates, they are both mid-range SoCs manufactured in a 14nm FinFET process and 64bit enabled.

Samsung Exynos 7904 Vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 625: Processor

Samsung Exynos 7904 Vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 625

Talking about its CPU, Qualcomm incorporated 8 cortex A-53 cores into the Snapdragon 625 chip, making it octa-core clocked at up to 2.00GHz for maintaining high performance tasks and less efficient ones. While Samsung also incorporated 8 CPU cores into the Exynos 7904 chip, it differs from the Snapdragon 625 in that the Exynos 7904 harnesses 2 Cortex A73 clocked up to 1.8GHz and 6 Cortex A-53 cores clocked at up to 1.6GHz.

The two cores are for high demanding tasks while the six handles background and other less efficient task. Important to note is that although the clock speed in the Snapdragon 625 are higher than that of the Exynos 7904, the 2 Cortex A-73 cores in the Exynos 7904 can defeat the Snapdragon 625 easily.

Samsung Exynos 7904 Vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 625: Graphics

One incomparable feature among these two Chipsets is their GPU. While the Snapdragon 625 is engineered with an old Adreno 506 GPU clocked around 650 MHz, the Exynos 7904 chip uses the latest Mali-G71 MP2 GPU with a clock frequency of around 770MHz. Without further analysis and testing, one can predict the function and winner of both GPU.

Performance

Camera in the Exynos 7904 supports a 32 MP single camera and also has support for triple camera setup. Whereas the Snapdragon 625 can support up to 24 MP single camera, which however is not clearly mentioned about dual camera support by Qualcomm.

Display in Exynos 7904 supports Full HD as well as Full HD+ Display with up to 20:9 aspect ratio, since Samsung M series smartphone is coming with the taller display it means this chipset has ability for a taller display support. Video playback for Full HD Videos is at 130FPS while Ultra HD videos at 30FPS. Opposingly, The Snapdragon 625 can also support Full HD+ Display but with up to 18:9 aspect ratio.

Connectivity

Another specific and important comparison about these two chips is based on their connectivity. While SD 625 supports an X9 LTE Modem that can use LTE Cat 7 to generate download speed of up to 300 Mbps and upload speed up to 150 Mbps, Exynos 7904 on the other hand utilizes LTE Cat. 12 modem.

It also allows up to 600 Mbps download speed and 150 Mbps upload speed, the Exynos has other edging features such as wi-fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, FM Radio, and GPS. While the Snapdragon 625 utilizes an older Bluetooth 4.0 version, but same Wifi 802.11ac and GPS support.

Benchmarks (AnTuTu)

Over at AnTuTu, specifically on the version 6, the 7904 reaches an avg score of 113662, while the 625 reaches an avg score of 69662.
