Samsung Exynos 7904 Vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 450

Samsung Exynos 7904 Vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 detailed comparison is about to begin. Processors are the first we measure in purchasing mobile devices but sometimes these measurements are done without real life testing.

While Smartphone manufacturers may input different other technologies in producing a quality device, some devices tend to have higher processor but lower functionality. This in essence is saying the performance of a device doesn’t depend solely on chipset module but also depends on phone manufacturers.

But to be on a safer side, it is advisable to go for a device with a good processor as it helps to determine functionality at a higher rate. Many enquiries have been made as to how certain processors function with their similarities and differences.

For this purpose, we shall consider these two chipsets: Exynos 7904 from Samsung and Snapdragon 450 from Qualcomm. While Exynos 7904 is a mid-range SoC, Snapdragon 450 is classified as a lower main stream SoC for Android based smartphones.

Process Technology (nm)

The process technology used in both chipsets are the same 14nm fabrication technique. That means both occupy less space and are power saving for mid-range mobiles. It is however expected that newer technology should posses an edge over older ones but it’s surprising to still get a 14nm node in the Exynos 7904 chip which was introduced early 2019 as compared to an older Snapdragon 450 in 2017. But lets see what Samsung has in other specifications.

Samsung Exynos 7904 Vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 450: Processor

Samsung Exynos 7904 Vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 450

Talking about the Processor, the Exynos Chip possess an edging feature over the Snapdragon 450. The Exynos chip utilizes 8 cores and the Snapdragon chip is also 8 cores but differentiation comes in their capability. While the Exynos 7904 posses two Cortex A-73 Cores and six Cortex A-53 Cores, clocked at 1.8GHz and 1.6GHz respectively, the Snapdragon chip has all cores Cortex A-53 which clocks up to 1.8GHZ.

Here, the two Cortex A-73 cores in the Exynos 7904 already means a greater advantage and functionality though their clock speed are the same the A73 cores are more efficient than the A-53 cores. The only similarity possessed are the number of cores.

Graphics

Graphics performance comes next as the Exynos 7904 has a Mali-M71 MP2 GPU while Snapdragon 450 houses the older Adreno 506 GPU which can also be gotten in the Snapdragon 625 chip.

As previous comparisons on Adreno 506 GPU has been made, it still remains the same in that it has clock speed of up to 650MHz, this is low in relativity to Samsung’s Exynos 7904 which houses a Mali-M71 MP2 GPU and clocks up to 770MHz.

It’s not really ideal to boast further about their GPU as we can see the Exynos 7904 is leading here. Therefore graphics rendering in devices using the Exynos 7904 will be more appreciated by users as compared to a Snapdragon 450 device.

Samsung Exynos 7904 Vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 450: Performance

The Snapdragon 450 supports 1080p Full HD, Full HD+ (2400×1080) WUXGA 18:9 ratio display with a camera support of up to 21-24MP Single Camera, 13+13MP dual camera, while the Exynos 7904 chip is able to support FullHD +(2400×1800) displays with up to 20:9 aspect display ratio, 32MP Rear, 32MP Front; 16+16MP dual camera.

The Exynos 7904 chip can handle 4K video at 30FPS encoding and decoding, while the Snapdragon450 has capacity for displays up to 1080p and 1080p video capture at 60fps.

Connectivity

Connectivity is one of the most basic elements when choosing a smart device as users want a faster connection and speeds when utilizing Internet, wireless and other phone to phone connections such as Bluetooth etc.

Connection is faster with the Exynos 7904 chip as it utilizes LTE Cat. 12 and Cat. 13 with up to 600Mbps download speed and 150Mbps upload speeds, an LPDDR4 RAM memory, it has support for OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.0, OpenCL 2.0, DirectX 11 FL11_1. Bluetooth 5.0.

While the Snapdragon 450 uses a 933MHz X9 LTE modem with support for Cat.7 and Cat.13 with 300Mbps download speed and 150Mbps upload speed, LPDDR3 Single-channel memory of 800MHz RAM speed with support for Vulkan and Open GL ES 3.1, WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.1. Here, we can say the 7904 is leading and has better connectivity depths.

Benchmarks (AnTuTu)

Over at AnTuTu, specifically on the version 6, the 7904 reaches an avg score of 113662, while the 450 reaches an avg score of 62444.
