Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro Unboxing Review: The Flagship Killer 2.0

The Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro is undoubtedly the most affordable smartphone with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 flagship chipset for 2019. The phone is tagged the flagship killer 2.0, being an update to the Pocophone F1 which trended last year.

We recently received a 6/128GB variant from popular online store AliExpress, where you can currently get the phone at a cheaper rate. However, there’s a global variant named Mi 9T Pro, which is not available on the store yet. Nonetheless, the Mi 9T, which is the global version of the K20 is available with its Snapdragon 730.

I’ve been using the K20 Pro for almost a week now, and the phone is as expected with its flagship chipset. The phone comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner, pop-up selfie and triple rear camera, one of which is a 48MP sensor.

Package Box

The Mi 9T Pro is currently not available, so we got the Redmi K20 Pro, which is evident from the package box. A mixture of Black, Light Purple and White colors make up the package box. There’s also a little dragon smitten underneath the box, with the K20 Pro written below it.

Unboxing

As usual, we did a little sneak peak showing you what’s inside the Redmi K20 Pro box. No surprises though, however, I was a bit disappointed at the plastic case it came with. Anyways, see below for “in a glance”.

Inside The Box

• Redmi K20 Pro
• 5V/3A Charger (QC 3.0 + USB Type C)
• Plastic Case
• User manual
• SIM Ejector tool

Design

The phone boasts if both front and back Corning Gorilla Glass 5, as well as an aluminum frame. Unlike the Poco F1, the K20 Pro looks and feels more premium and classy like a true flagship.

We got the Red color variant, which did wonders when reflecting light. The triple rear camera were vertically aligned at the top middle, while the dual-LED flash sits underneath.

The 3.5mm Jack and pop-up selfie camera sits at the top, and disappointingly, the IR blaster is finally gone guys. The USB Type C slot and speakers are at the usual corner underneath, just like the Redmi Note 7 we unboxed.

Display

The Redmi K20 Pro is built around a 6.39″ FHD+ 1080 x 2340 AMOLED display, and a sharp 403ppi. The screen stretches up to 86.1% screen-to-body ratio with a 20:9 aspect ratio, leaving room for no bezels whatsoever.

There’s a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top and it can play HDR contents, while boasting of an in-display fingerprint scanner which is relatively fast just like the typical rear one. The scanner on the screen always illuminates, waiting for you to place your finger.

Performance & PUBG Mobile

It’s powered by the Snapdragon 855 flagship chipset clocking at 2.84GHz. The GPU is the Adreno 640, I actually downloaded AnTuTu and tried running the app to check the score, however, the app crashes during the GPU check, so I couldn’t check the score.

Nonetheless, every other app works normally. I actually played PUBG Mobile Hack on the phone and it rendered the highest settings with much details and clarity. It runs on Android 9 Pie out of the box as well, and we got the Global ROM, hence the Mi 9T Pro as the device name.

Camera

The phone comes with a triple 48MP + 8MP + 13MP rear camera which was amazing during outdoor shots we took with phone, the first one is with the default camera app, while the other was with Google Camera APK app. There are lots of options and mode to choose from before taking photos.

I also took some cute selfies with the 20MP motorized pop-up shooter, one was a normal selfie, while I turned on portrait mode for the other shot.

Battery

The phone is powered by a 4000mAh battery, so I tried to drain the power as much as I can by playing PUBG Mobile highest settings, taking photos and pretty much pushing the limits of the battery. It got below 20% after 4 hours from 100%, which is impressive.

Verdict

The Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro is currently trending on shopping stores as Xiaomi’s cheapest flagship smartphone for the year 2019, so you already know it’s definitely worth the price.

Where To Buy?

The 6/128GB variant with Global ROM is priced at $389, however, you can’t see the phone any cheaper than Here.
