Xiaomi Mi Play has been launched today as the company’s first smartphone with waterdrop notch. As expected, the device targets those on a budget and retains the 3.5mm jack. It’s powered by the new Helio P35 chip with Dual Turbo Smart Acceleration that will accelerate both the GPU and CPU. It has a starting price of ¥1099, which translates to $159. Design
The device comes with dual rear camera and a dual Corning Gorilla Glass at the back and front, just like the Mi 8 Lite. There’s a rear fingerprint scanner, while the selfie camera with its own notch supports Face Unlock. The device measures 7.8mm in thickness, weighs just 150g and will be available in Black, Blue and Gold.
Display
The Mi Play is built around a 5.84-inch FHD+ IPS LCD teardrop display. The screen boasts of 1080 x 2280 pixels in resolution along with a 432 pixel per inch density for clear visuals as well. Overall, the screen stretches up to 80.4% screen-to-body ratio.
Software and Hardware
It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box with MIUI V10.0. Steering the wheel, is the Helio P35 chipset from MediaTek which comes with 8-cores of processor clocking at 2.3GHz offering a smooth ride.
The PowerVR GE8320 graphics card handles everything graphics. The phone packs 64GB internal storage space for storing your files, you can expand up to 256GB using a memory card. It comes with 4GB RAM space for multitasking through apps and tasks.
Camera
The Xiaomi Mi Play houses dual 12MP + 2MP rear camera for all your photography needs. The camera is equipped with a dual-LED flash and other internal features listed in the table below. For taking selfies, there’s an 8MP shooter.
Battery
Powering up the Mi Play is a 3000mAh battery capacity with support for fast charging. Charging the battery from 0% to 100% shouldn’t take up to 2 hours.
