The Samsung Exynos 9820 Processor is a flagship chipset which was introduced by Samsung as a direct competitor to the Snapdragon 855 flagship chip from Qualcomm. The Exynos 9820 is the next level processor that was designed for the mobile future, according to Samsung.
Specifically designed to maximize intelligence, the chipset comes with so many AI features as well as NPU to power through the tri-cluster performance. The Neural Processing Unit brings a whole new Artificial Intelligence to the table here, which focuses on processing AI tasks efficiently.
With this, it outperforms its predecessor when it comes to processing AI-related tasks and functions. The chip also comes loaded with advanced AR features which helps in enhancing photos taken with the phone it powers. Introduced in 2018, the chip is the leading front-runner on every Galaxy flagships, the list of phones will be mentioned below for easy identification.
Samsung Exynos 9820 Octa-core Processor
It comes with octa-core processor, there are four Cortex-A55 cores and two Cortex-A75 cores, also known as Exynos M3 in code generally. This is undoubtedly 4th generation CPU with 64-bit architecture for premium performance. It’s also Worthy to note that the tri-cluster mentioned above boosts the multi-core performance.
Overall, it offers a 15% improvements compared to its predecessor. The chip comes with the Exynos 9 series LTE-advanced pro modem, which provides up to 2GB per second in download speeds and 316MB per second in upload speeds. Apart from the speed and stability being enhanced, it’s also integrated with 4×4 multiple-input, multiple-output as well as the enhanced eLLA technology.
It can support up to 5 camera sensors Integrating the ISP (image signal processor), there’s also support for IR sensor which improves the multiple cameras. With faster autofocus and a greater photo quality, the chip offers an incredible photography experience. The chip can decode and encode 8K videos @30fps. The memory speed of this chipset is reported to be above 2000MHz.
Samsung Exynos 9820 Graphics
Handling graphics is the Mali-G76MP12 GPU from ARM for a better gaming performance and smooth handling of complex graphics. There’s no game on the Google Play Store that this chip can’t handle efficiently and even on the highest settings, popularly referred to as the Game Changer. Coming with 12-cores and clocking up to 1000MHz, it’s wider execution engines and lanes does the job efficiently.
Process Technology (nm)
Designed on the much newer 10m LPP process technology, this consumes less power and offers performance gains, when compared to its predecessor. However, it’s obvious the chip is not on par with newer chips built on 7nm process.
Benchmarks (AnTuTu)
Speaking of AnTuTu benchmark scores, it peaked at 340,345 at debut but could go as low as 99,150 if you stand-by lots of apps during the check.
