Samsung Exynos 8890 Review, Phones, Specs and Benchmarks

The Samsung Exynos 8890 Octa-core Processor was introduced as an amazing flagship chipset at that time, specifically in 2015. And as early as Q1 2016, it began powering the flagship Galaxy S7 that same year. It was widely promoted by Samsung as a superb processor which was engineered for a smooth mobile experience.

Samsung Exynos 8890

Designed to redefine the speed that was needed by the mobile industry, the 8890 comes with 8-cores just like the 8895. However, it was highly rated as Samsung’s first custom designed CPU based on 64-bit ARMv8 architecture. This was engineered to enhance and upgrade the performance which was lacking on the conventional CPU technology.

As stated above, the eight-cores on this chip were based on 64-bit ARMv8 architecture. Compared to the Exynos 7 Octa series, this provides a 30 percent improvement in performance and power efficiency. It also comes loaded with Samsung Coherent Interconnect (SCI), Samsung’s own technology that provides cache-coherency between custom CPU and Cortex-A53 cores.

It’s also we to note that this chipset has the LTE-Advanced Category 12/13 modem already integrated. Supporting a download speed of 600Mbps and a upload speed of up to 150Mbps. It also supports FDD-TDD LTE enabling a seamless mobile network experience.

Speaking of enabling, it also enables 4K UHD video recording and playback utilizing the Multi-Format Codec. It can also power up to 4K UHD or WQUXGA display resolution, that’s technically 4096 x 2160 or 3840 x 2400 pixels respectively. Lets not forget the advanced ISP was integrated as well, for great camera quality.

Samsung Exynos 8890 Graphics

Bringing you life-like content on mobile, Samsung brought the Mali T880-MP12 on board, which was ARM‘s latest GPU at that time. This enables 3D gaming smoothly and brings any graphic-intensive user interface to life, thanks to the Sophisticated technologies it comes with.

Process Technology (nm)

The chipset was designed on the 2nd generation 14nm FinFET LLP process technology. You should know that the LPP stands for Low-Power Plus, employing advanced performance and power efficiency.

Benchmarks (AnTuTu)

Stopping by at AnTuTu, specifically on the version 6, the 8890 reaches a minimum score of 127902, an average of 130165, median of 128749 and max of 133845.
