Samsung Exynos 7880 Octa Review, Specs & Phones

Samsung Exynos 7880 is a 64-bit SoC manufactured for mainstream smartphones and tablets which are usually Android based. The company announced the introduction of the chip into devices in early 2017 alongside Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 and A5 2017.

Samsung, being one of the most recognized in the technology market has been working effortlessly on the production of chip for it’s range of smart devices. Most Samsung phones were typically powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series while Samsung is aimed at producing higher end chips to power it’s list of devices.

Process Technology (nm)

Samsung engineered the chip in advanced 14nm FinFET process technology, which it claims consumes up to 36% less power than its predecessor like the 7580 built on 28nm HKMG process at the same performance level. The chip enables battery life with longer lasting sustainability while delivering drastically improved performance, all thanks to an octa-core 64-bit CPU and an advanced GPU.

The chip integrates eight of Cortex-A53 cores, all clocked at up to 1.9 GHz, this could be compared to the Snapdragon 636 mid-range chip from Qualcomm and its octa-core processor.

Samsung Exynos 7880 Graphics

Samsung phones and products are highly recognized with their unquestionable Graphical display. One of such is the Mali-T830 GPU in the A7 and A5. The chip offers an intensive 3D gaming experience empowered with a powerful Mali-T830 MP3 GPU.

While Ultra HD video can playback and record at 30fps in HEVC(H.265) and H.264, its format are supported with the powerful MFC (Multi-Format Codec) to meet the current trend that demands powerful videos.

Performance

Also, photography and camera quality is beautiful with it’s Image signal processor (ISP) which supports a high resolution at up to 21.7Mp for both rear and front cameras for an amazingly detailed photographs. Users can can be guaranteed of all the visual experiences including game, video and photo on a vibrant and realistic WQHD high-resolution display.

Connectivity

The Exynos 7880 is equipped with an LTE Category 7 modem offering 300Mbps speed for its downloads and 100Mbps upload speeds. In addition to 3CA(Carrier Aggregation) for downlink and 2CA for uplink that binds different bandwidths for using network faster and reliable, it also enables an FDD-TDD joint CA for better network and user flexibility.

Benchmarks (AnTuTu)

Over at AnTuTu, specifically on the version 6, the chip reaches a low of 56653, avg of 57915, median of 60490 and max points of 62973.
