Redmi Note 8 might be the first smartphone to house the Helio G90T chipset

Xiaomi’s sub-brand is reportedly preparing the Redmi Note 8, a successor to the Redmi Note 7 Pro. According to a MCT source, the phone will be powered by the new MediaTek Helio G90T chipset.

Vice President of Xiaomi & General Manager of Redmi, Lu Weibing, already revealed that the new MediaTek gaming chipset will debut on the next Redmi device. It’s now certain that this model will be the Redmi Note 8, however, there will be a Redmi Note 8 Pro housing a Snapdragon 700 series as well.

Xiaomi typically introduces two Redmi Note series in a year. The Note 7 series which consists of the Redmi Note 7, Note 7S and Note 7 Pro has already been launched, which leaves us to the Note 8 series.

It’s also worthy to note that the standard upcoming Redmi budget series, the Redmi 8, can’t be powered by such gaming chip, which leaves us to the Note 8. The new device will be announced on the 7th of August and is expected to sport a 64MP camera.
