Qualcomm Snapdragon 845

The Qualcomm snapdragon 845 mobile platforms for smart phones possess a high end single chip system following the snapdragon 8 series. It outsmarted the Snapdragon 835, the chip is set to power new generation of high-power, flagship quality smart phones.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 845

Process Technology (nm)

It is built with a 10nm FinFET process, the chipset is being made on second generation 10LPP (low power profile) process, a redefined version of 10LPE (low power entry) used for the 835 and packs more transistors.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa-Core Processor

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 runs on Cortex-A75/A55 with four powerful efficiency cores running at Kryo 385 1.8 GHz and four more performance cores. Kryo 385 which have a clock speed of about 2.8ghz offers a performance boost of 25-30% over those in the snapdragon 835 while efficiency core offers a 15% boost.

The chip supports 802.11ad Wi-Fi and 802.11ac Wi-Fi which speeds up to 4.6Gbps giving you a desirable Wi-Fi environment. Its improved Bluetooth connectivity allows you connect to multiple devices instead of just 1. The 845 is a third generation of mobile artificial intelligence platform.

Artificial intelligence platform increases the efficiency of mobile devices and devices can be able to handle extra workloads. Artificial intelligence also helps in better image processing; which means increased artificial intelligence from the 845 image processing will only get better and faster.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Graphics

One of the exciting improvements in the 845 is the implementation of Adreno 600 series GPU which in turn is the first new GPU architecture from Qualcomm. The Adreno 630 in the 845 beats the Adreno 540 in the 835 and this is a 30 percent increase in performance, according to Qualcomm.

Performance

It’s packed Qualcomm’s new snapdragon X20LTE modem which can reach up to 1.2Gbps more than the 1Gbps on the 635’s snapdragon X16 modem and adds dual Volte support for devices with dual SIMs.

According to Qualcomm, the X20 LTE modem allows for 20percent increased faster speed in real world test matching it with a building era of 5G and with Gigabit LTE growing at a hugely fast pace.

The chip can receive data from up to five channels at once as it supports a 5X carrier aggregation this allows for faster data speed at 1.2 Gbps. Also the 845 is the first chip to support actually capturing it through camera. While previous developed chips have had to focus on capturing more pixels, the chipset focuses on capturing better pixels quality.

While the 835 could capture the Rec.709 color gamut, the 845 can capture the Rec.2020 color gamut, going from 8 bits to 10 bits of color making it easier for a more realistic image and clearer contents.

Camera

Aside from color capture, the improved Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip supports video capture of 240 frames per second at 1080p. A feature the iPhone 8 and iPhone X hold over android devices. It supports a slower motion capture of 480fps at 720p.
With a wide range of improved functions the 845 is one of the the best chipset you can get in a phone.

Benchmarks (AnTuTu)

Over at AnTuTu, specifically on the version 6, the chip reaches a low of 162183, avg of 225534, median of 228173 and max points of 242953.
