Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8928 Review, Specs & Phones

Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC was introduced by Qualcomm, a manufacturer of both low-end, mid-level and high-end Mobile processors made the Snapdragon 400 an entry-level system on a chip. It is called entry level because it was one of the first moblie processors from Qualcomm.

In early 2013, Qualcomm announced the new tiering structure for Snapdragon processors, which included Snapdragon 800, 600, 400 and 200. While the Snapdragon 800 and 600 processors were clearly targeted at premier and high end smartphones, tablets and mobile computing devices, the Snapdragon 400 and Snapdragon 200 processors took Qualcomm’s technology leadership into the mid-tier and entry level smartphone segments.

Process Technology (nm)

Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8928 is an ARM based system on a chip which is manufactured in a 28-nanometer LP process.

It integrates a Qualcomm Adreno 305 Graphics processing unit. All chips in the 400 series utilize Adreno 305 GPU. According to its GPU specs, high demanding Android games of 2013 may not run completely smooth, but simple titles like Angry Birds and other smaller multimedia tasks are good to go. Furthermore, it has a 32-bit bandwidth memory of LPDDR2 and LPDDR 3.

Performance

According to other specification of the chip from Qualcomm, the chip has a 3.15MP Single Camera, while it can capture video of up to 1080p at 30fps it can also playback video up to 1080p.

It’s also known to feature a H.265 (HEVC), H.264 (AVC) codec support, and with display modifications it can deliver 1920×1200, WUXGA maximum on-device display.

The chip utilizes a category 4 LTE with download peaked at 150 Mbps for downloads and 50Mbps for uploads, these tells us downloads should be less than minutes.

Connectivity

It uses WCDMA (DC-HSPA+), TD-SCDMA, CDMA 1x, EV-DO, GSM/EDGE cellular technology to support smartphone producers need. It has Wi-Fi standards of 802.11ac Wave 2, 802.11a/b/g, 802.11n with Wi-Fi spectral bands clocked around 2.4 GHz and 5GHz, while it’s peak speed is at 150 Mbps, wireless connectivity delivers with speed and connections are strong. The chip also support Bluetooth 4.0 as well as Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0

Benchmarks (AnTuTu)

Over at AnTuTu, specifically on the version 6, the chip reaches a low of 15335, avg of 16735, median of 17354 and max points of 19444.
