MediaTek Helio X27 MT6797X Review, Specs & Phones

MediaTek Helio X27 processor was launched by Taiwanese manufacturer in 2018 which took over the X25 as the high-end SoC in the X20 Series. MediaTek aimed it for high end Andriod based smartphones which needs deca-core processors.

Process Technology

The X27 chip is manufactured in a 20 nm process at TSMC and should have an estimated average power consumption under work load.

MediaTek Helio X27 Processor

MediaTek Helio X27

In order to make it a very powerful chip, MediaTek equipped the X27 with 10 CPU cores just like its predecessors but this time with faster efficiency. It is divided into 3 clusters, first core composes of Two fast Cortex-A72 cores running at up to 2.6 GHz for short Burst-Performance scenarios.

Another cluster composes of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked up to 2GHz to balance tasks, and the third cluster made up of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked up to 1.6 GHz to handle efficiency and lesser tasks.

All cores are 64-bit enabled, just like the Helio P70 and the utilization of these three clusters are supposed to improve efficiency and increase performance, according to MediaTek. The two A72 cores are only designed according to Mediatek and are probably not used for sustained workloads.

MediaTek Helio X27 Graphics

The X27 chip integrates an ARM Mali T880 MP4 GPU composed of four cluster as compared to 16 clusters from the Midgard (4th Gen) architecture.

The display can be refreshed at up to 120 fps for improved optical appreciation and responsive scrolling of web contents all thanks to its ARM Mali-T880 MP4 GPU with clock rate of up to 875MHz, which also yields uncompromised performance in games with high-resolution graphics.

Performance

MediaTek designed the Helio X27 for smartphones with dual-cameras as it supports up to 32MP camera at 24/30fps and includes color and mono sensor support. This multiple-sensor design can capture three times the light of a traditional single-bayer sensor, thus image noise is reduced and quality increased.

It features a built-in 3D depth engine for depth of field processing, as well as multi-scale de-noise engines, for faster response time between shots and unprecedented detail, color, and sharpness, even under extreme conditions.

Connectivity

A Category 6 LTE modem and MT6300 which is an Envelope Tracking Module (ETM) complements MediaTek’s CAT-6 modem. The package monitors the voltage supplied to the RF power amplifier in real-time, and makes use of a continual, fine-grained voltage adjustments to boost the power amplifier’s efficiency.

By ensuring that the power amplifier is operating at peak efficiency, it reduces heat generated in the phone, particularly during LTE-A and Carrier Aggregated service use. MediaTek’s ETM package can actually save up to 20% current at maximum output.

Benchmarks (AnTuTu)

Over at AnTuTu, specifically on the version 6, the chip reaches a low of 73653, avg of 77915, median of 78490 and max points of 81973.
