Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 710 Review, Specs & Phones

Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 710 is an ARM based mid-range System on a chip for Android based smartphones and tablets. After being announced in mid 2018 alongside the Nova 3i phone, benchmark tests were carried out. On the Antutu total bench score, the Hisilicon powered Huawei Nova 3i scored a total of 138280 over Snapdragon 660 powered Xiaomi Mi A2 with 131297 score.

Benchmarks are a mainstay review of Android device. They are basically a convenient way to measure the performance of a phone, although they don’t really provide a guarantee that one phone running a certain processor with a higher score will be faster than another based on a processor with a lower score in real life.

Process Technology (nm)

The Kirin 710 chip is the first silicone piece from Huawei to use the 12nm process node compared to the 16nm Kirin 960 and 10nm Kirin 970.

Based on a 12nm TSMC architecture, Huawei claimed that its latest chipset will be able to offer a whooping 75% higher single-core performance than the Kirin 659 with multi-core performance as much as 68% improvement.

Hisilicon Kirin 710

As a successor to the popular Kirin 659 chipset, the new Kirin 710 brings better performance and efficiency to the table. It boasts of 8 processors divided into two clusters. One cluster made up of Cortex-A73 and clocks up to 2.2 GHz, while the other cluster made up of Cortex-A53 clocks up to 1.7 GHz.

In comparisons, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 is one powerful mid-range processors and one of the closest contenders to the Kirin 710.

Hisilicon Kirin 710 Graphics

The chip integrates an ARM Mali-G51 MP4 GPU which is a mid range graphics card introduced in 2018 in the Kirin 710 chip and uses 4 clusters (hence the MP4name).

This GPU is said to be 1.3 times faster than the one of its predecessor the Kirin 659. It supports all modern graphics APIs like OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.0, OpenCL 2.0, DirectX 12 FL9_3 as compared to 11 in the G7x line.

The chip also uses its CPU and GPU for AI-related functions such as scene recognition, better low-light snaps, and Face Unlock among other things.

Benchmarks (AnTuTu)

Over at AnTuTu, specifically on the version 6, the chip reaches a low of 134012, avg of 140206, median of 141971 and max points of 142870.
